Scholars Network announced a partnership with United Health Services (UHS) on the UHS Gateway Scholars Student Loan Repayment Program, which aims to grow the healthcare workforce in New York's Southern Tier by giving students financial support, career pathways, and early engagement before they enter clinical roles.
Students in the program who commit to joining UHS, and who meet hiring criteria after graduation and licensure, receive loan repayment once they join the workforce. Each amount is paid over three years:
- Registered Nurse (RN): up to $50,000
- Radiologic Technologist: up to $35,000
- Clinical Laboratory Technologist: up to $50,000
- Doctor of Physical Therapy: up to $50,000
More than loan repayment
The UHS Gateway Scholars Program also offers early mentorship, advising, and career planning, and is designed to bring new talent to UHS. Scholars Network will help administer additional benefits that reduce student debt and support retention.
UHS is a locally owned, not-for-profit organization with four hospitals, long-term and home care services, and physician practices across Broome County and surrounding counties. It employs more than 6,300 employees and providers.
For Scholars Network, the partnership extends a model already working with employers across the Northeast: invest in students early, and build a pipeline of clinicians committed to the communities they serve.
