The Guthrie Clinic is offering nursing students up to $65,000 in student loan repayment when they commit to working at Guthrie after completing their education. The Guthrie Nursing Scholars program, a collaboration with Scholars Network, connects students with financial support and a clear career pathway across the rural Pennsylvania and New York communities Guthrie serves.

The program pairs financial assistance with a defined employment commitment: graduates repay their obligation through service at Guthrie hospitals, easing the burden of educational debt while building a clinical workforce rooted in the region. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania supports the program as part of a broader effort to address healthcare workforce shortages in rural areas.

"Through the Guthrie Nursing Scholars program, we are not only helping students fund their education but also welcoming them into a supportive environment."

Early results point to strong traction: 16 registered nurses are currently employed through the program, 20 newly licensed nurses are joining Guthrie in summer 2026, and 9 future nurses have been awarded program seats for 2027–2028. The first cohort posted a 94% retention rate, and the program has provided more than $350,000 in total funding to date.
